Born to Be a Badass

May 18, 2020

Dr. Alice Atalanta is an Ivy League graduate with a Ph.D. and three Master's Degrees. She is also a single mom of 2, USA Boxing athlete, sexual assault survivor, former All-American snowboarder, self-defense and combatives instructor, and sought-after commentator in the fight world on the topic of women's personal defense. Dr. Atalanta's life defies expectations, as she attacks the self-limiting beliefs that can hold women back and provides insight into the struggles and triumphs of being a female player on a male playing field. She devoted years of her life to serving the veteran’s community and now specializes in working closely with writers from high-performance backgrounds, from former Navy SEALs to Corporate powerhouses.

In this episode, Alice and I discuss:

  • Busting the mindset of girls being weaker or in need of rescuing and encouraging the next generation of women to know they can be who they want to be.
  • How going through something traumatic can make you stronger, but processing the emotions that come from trauma can help you heal and find true strength.
  • Embracing the idea of “empowering violence”, having respect for what you are capable of, and understanding the repercussions of your actions.
  • Manifesting a radical sense of self-acceptance, and letting that inform your path to becoming empowered and stronger.

Key Takeaways:

  • You can't control the world, but you can be as prepared as possible.
  • If you don’t understand that violence is inevitable in this world, you will be unprepared when it finds you.
  • People who truly understand violence are the last to glorify it.
  • The more you can connect with and appreciate your primal instincts, the more empowered you will be, and your life will be richer.

"When you tune into your awareness of violence, or your awareness of your own capacity for violence, you're also tuning into your own capacity for tenderness and altruism and sensuality and survival." —  Alice Atalanta
