Born to Be a Badass

Jun 8, 2020

Megan Hamilton is a public speaking coach for women with speaking anxiety. She's a classically trained actor and a professional musician and used her technical understanding and 25+ years of performance to create a public speaking system that works.

In this episode, Megan and I discuss:

  • The unique challenges Women face overcoming learned passive behavior that diminishes the impact of their valuable message.
  • Navigating the battles to hold your boundaries, and discerning what’s worth fighting for.
  • The ways women physically hold themselves that diminish their voice, and some tips on how to stand tall and firm in stature and voice.
  • The power of controlled breathing to calm your fight, flight or freeze response and bring your rational mind back into control.

Key Takeaways:

  • Trust your instincts and take action to keep yourself safe rather than dismissing it just because somebody else says you're being ridiculous.
  • Acknowledge mistakes, but avoid apologizing for messing up or speaking out.
  • Learning how to stand correctly, using your body’s full potential, makes you more aware and connected to your surroundings.
  • Learn your system and practice it. The more wins you get, the more courageous you feel, and the more comfortable and confident because you can see it working.

"We need to hear from the voices that we haven't heard from. And those are the underrepresented groups. It's women, it's people of color. It's the LGBTQ community. It's the voices that traditionally have been squashed because the current system ain't working." —  Megan Hamilton
