Born to Be a Badass

Aug 10, 2020

Karen Heise is an emergency preparedness coach and firearms instructor. She leads two shooting chapters of The Well-Armed Woman and has multiple instructor certifications. She and her husband have a business where they help individuals and families become better prepared for emergency situations, covering all aspects of emergency preparedness including firearms training and maintenance.

In this episode, Caren and I discuss:

  • Getting exposure to firearms, firearm education, and situational awareness levels.
  • The Well Armed Woman (TWAW) a group of women who meet monthly and practice, learn and grow as shooters. All levels from newbies to experienced competition shooters.
  • Listening to your intuition, recognizing and sensing that something bad is about to happen, and not ignoring it.
  • Conditioning yourself to recognize danger and how to prepare for handling danger when it is imminent.

Key Takeaways:

  • Caren’s advice to women in their 20’s is to just go after what you want. And if you fall down, get back up again. Also know there's a special someone out there for everyone. Get out there, do it and give it your best shot, but be cautious at the same time. Don't be naive, try to educate yourself on how the world works so that you don't follow into some of the common pitfalls that many young women do.
  • Caren’s advice to find your own power and courage is to find your voice, your calm, and learn how to be okay with not reacting.

"These ladies are not only self-protection like-minded and second amendment like-minded, but they're just cool and kind ladies."
